Ella Mittas – 8th June 2024

£65.00
sold out

Saturday 8th June, 1pm

I’m very excited to welcome Ella Mittas all the way from Melbourne to my Studio in Edinburgh for a Greek-inspired lunch and book launch.

Ella’s Greek heritage and fascination with traditional foods and cooking styles led her to live and work in Turkey, Greece, and Italy. She owns a catering company, Ela Melbourne, where she teaches cooking classes and curates food events in collaboration with venues across Melbourne.

Ella's debut cookbook Ela! Ela! is inspired by her time working in a village in the mountains of Crete and the hot, loud streets of Istanbul, as well as her Greek heritage, they represent a journey of food, culture and belonging.

I’m fascinated with Ella’s book adventure as the original format of her book was self-published (and photographed by Ella herself!) last year and she sold out the whole print run. Ella was then approached by Murdoch Books to publish and distribute her book globally, so the version we will be selling at the launch has an updated cover with burnt orange lino-cuts (also designed by Ella!).

@elamelbourne

Tickets are £65 and the menu will be something along the lines of:

Fava with pickled shallots and capers

Braised octopus

Dolmades filled with sour cherries served with garlic yogurt

Village Salad - tomatoes, cucumber, feta and rusks

Moussaka - braised lamb shoulder, eggplant and potatoes

Briam Veg option - layered eggplant, potato and zucchini in a rich tomato sauce

Galactobureko - semolina custard in filo, maybe served with berries (Ella’s all-time favourite dessert)

Natural wine included on the table/homemade soft drinks.

Start time is 1pm, finishing around 4pm. There will be time for Q&A with Ella after lunch and the chance to buy signed, personalised copies of her new book Ela! Ela!

21 Sciennes Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1NX

Please get in contact to check on any other dietary or special requirements before booking. Most of the time we can adapt the menu and cater for everyone, but please do check first.
